Solaris Bus & Coach will deliver 3 trolleybuses for the city Medias as part of a project with european funding

Today, Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. signed a contract in the value of EUR 1.25 million as part of an european funded project for the modernization of the public transport in the romanian city of Medias. The vehicles will make it to Medias in the first half of 2021, the municipality announces. The european project also includes funds for trolleybus network extension and traffic management systems. The new vehicles are not equipped with batteries for autonomy from overhead wires.

The project under which the 3 trolleybuses will be purchased, financed under the Regional Operational Programme 2014-2020, Priority Axis 3 on reducing carbon emissions in urban areas is called "Modernisation, rehabilitation and extension of public electric transport routes in the municipality of Medias" and is to be implemented in the next 33 months. The project also includes a new ticketing system, intelligent traffic management system and the rehabilitation of 19 km of trolleybus network, as well as a 14.3 km extension of the existing network. At the moment, in the city of Medias all the trolleybus in service are second-hand vehicles from Neuchâtel and Sollingen, and there are no plans of dismissing them by the arrival of the new Trollinos. The project value amounts to about EUR 11 million.

Solaris succeded to have various contracts in Romania in the last year: 50 Trollino 18 trolleybuses for Cluj-Napoca, 26 Trollino 18 equipped with batteries for Brasov and 16 e-buses Urbino 18 electric for Craiova.
